There's No Show Like 'Welcome To Wrexham' Because It Goes From Making You Cry To The Manager Calling His Team 'Fucking Fatty Fucking Footballers'

I've blogged about Wrexham a lot and even about the show Welcome to Wrexham:

It keeps getting better. We're now 6 episodes in after last night and it's awesome. There's no show like it on television. It's blending emotion with comedy. It's blending the town, the history of the club and the way Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are trying to build the club under their regime. But last night's two episodes really drove it home for me.

I'm not the crying type but I felt myself get choked up last night. The show talked about the Declan Swans who dropped this song of the year:

But it tied in how the lead singer is battling cancer and how much the club means to him. There's just nothing like sports man. We've met people from the town who are either battling sickness, divorce, death of family members but how the one thing that ties everyone together is Wrexham AFC.

You hear Mac talk about how important sports are to him. How it's about watching the moment with family and friends. That's what sports is about. The one constant is sports. It's always there for us. I'd be lying if I said sports weren't a major, major part of my life. Whether it was a kid playing them, an adult watching them with my kids or my dad or my friends or shit even having my job be surrounded by them. It just hits home.

But then Welcome to Wrexham delivers comedy. Obviously Mac and Reynolds are actors and can chime in with one-liners, but it's the moments you don't expect. Like the manager calling his team fucking fatty fucking footballers.

It worked. It fired the lads up after being down 1-0 at half at home. That's what you need out of a manager. I can't stress it enough. It's worth the watch. We're six episodes in, each episode just about 30 minutes long. Do yourself a favor and watch it. It doesn't matter if you like soccer or not, it's just an awesome show.
