Listen Here: Britney Spears & Elton John Release Remix Of 'Hold Me Closer' And Honestly It's A Bop

Via Pitchfork:

Britney Spears is back with her first newly recorded song since the Gloryera, and it’s a duet with Elton John. “Hold Me Closer” is a spin on John’s 1971 classic “Tiny Dancer.” The updated track was produced by Andrew Watt.

In 2020, Spears released a handful of singles recorded around her 2016 album, Glory, but “Hold Me Closer” marks her return to the studio and official comeback after her fight for freedom from a conservatorship overseen by her father, James “Jamie” Spears, since 2008.

When I went to Instagram to see how prolific-poster Britney was promoting the release of her first song in six years & the first since she's been 'freed', I expected to see a billion new updates with endless captions. Instead I was surprised by this page:

Turns out on Wednesday, shortly after she announced a teaser for the song, she deleted her 42.9M-follower account to focus on happiness. Barstool & other media outlets have covered her posts extensively & the things she was putting up often caused speculation over her well-being, though she's still active on Twitter:

Hopefully she soaks up the positive feedback on there. Mine is that the song is a bop… 'Hold Me Closer' is already a banger as-is, and this remix passes my litmus for if it's any good: "Would I dance like a happy moron if this started blasting in the bar at 1:30am?" Yes… Yes I would. In fact, it got me dancing like a moron (given, that's the only way I know how to dance) at 8am on a Friday completely sober. Go Britney, goooooooo.
