What You Missed While You Were Sleeping On Day 2 Of The 150th Open Championship At St. Andrews
We’re well into Friday at The Open and the scores are coming in LOW. Little bit of rain this morning has softened and slowed the course a bit and the wind hasn’t been severe. That’s allowed numerous guys to gain big time ground on Cameron Young, who will probably have been overtaken by the time he tees off shortly at 8:26 AM ET. Here’s what’s happened:
LIV Guys Are Going Off
The LIV fellas are following up a strong showing Thursday with an even better showing Friday morning. DJ has caught and surpassed Cam Young at -9 after a 68 yesterday and a 67 this morning. Talor Gooch has gone 68-69 to get himself in the clubhouse at -7. Poulter is off and running with birdie on 1 to get to -5. Hell, even Sergio had low round of the day for a minute with a 66. What an awkward and bizarre scenario if one of these guys wins. Greg Norman would be doing backflips…
Other Big Names Joining The Mix
Big shocker, world #1 Scottie Scheffler has put himself in the mix at -8 with some sure and steady play. It feels like the guy has been automatic inside 7 feet all year. Surely that comment won’t come back to bite me.
Patrick Cantlay has also crept up the leaderboard to -7 despite USA seemingly having little idea he was even on the course most the front 9. Adam Scott just carded a 65 (hope you took that Top 10 +800 pick) for low round of the day so far. Tyrell Hatton’s crazy ass has been giving himself birdie looks on virtually every hole and is right there, and Jordan Spieth is lurking too. Very good leaderboard rn and it’s only getting better.
No Magic For Tiger
Welp… this sucks. Tiger’s looked a little bit better today in the early going, but he needed something special to give himself a shot at the weekend. For a moment it appeared he might go on a run after pouring in a 25 footer on 3
But he immediately followed that up with a brutal lipout on a 3-footer on the next hole and hasn’t done anything since. Especially tough to watch as he leaves continually leaves lag putts 10-15 feet short. He’ll have the weekend off. Sad.

That’s what I got this morning. Shaping up to be a lovely day out there. God help us if this turns into a Rory v DJ duel. What a treat that would be.
