Daniel Cormier Finally Confesses To Using The "Towel Trick" During His Hall Of Fame Speech

Last night, the UFC held their annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Las Vegas where the 2022 Class of Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Cub Swanson vs Doo Ho Choi (the UFC Hall of Fame has a fight wing) were inducted, and honestly - it was a great night all around.

Everyone gave great speeches, including Giga Chikadze, who received the Forrest Griffin Community Award....

....but the moment of the night undoubtedly went to Daniel Cormier when he admitted that he grabbed the towel at UFC 210 weigh-ins all the way back in 2017.

If you're not familiar with the incident, DC was about to fight Rumble Johnson for the second time, and missed weight on his fight attempt, coming in at 206.2lbs. Literally minutes later, he stepped on the scale and CLEARLY grabbed the towel designed to shield his privates to alleviate about a pound of pressure on the scale to hit 205lbs....

It's an old wrestlers trick, as Cormier explains in his Hall of Fame speech, but seeing it executed on this high a level was shocking for everybody at the time. That's the New York State Athletic Commission for ya - took em til 2016 to legalize MMA, it'll probably take em til 2057 to begin to understand it!

It seemed plain-as-day obvious what happened there to everyone and their mothers, but despite getting called out left and right (even by his cohosts on-air)….

….Cormier maintained that he was innocent.

It was one of the greatest kayfabe performances we've seen since The Undertaker retired.

Deciding to not only admit to it during your Hall of Fame speech, but to also detail the entire situation and laugh about getting over on the NYSAC is nothing short of hilarious in my opinion. Even the joke about being so lucky that even when he lost the belt came back to him was so funny. Shit like this is why I love Daniel Cormier.
