Jada Pinkett Smith Wants Chris Rock and Will Smith to 'Reconcile'
While it sounds counter-intuitive, eyewitness accounts are notoriously unreliable. Human brains are wired to interpret what we see differently, based on how we are affected by it and how we internalize it. There's a classic Japanese film called Rashomon where an event is retold by different people who were there, and tell vastly different accounts. It's probably one of the most imitated tropes in all of fiction, most recently done by the Matt Damon/Ben Affleck vehicle The Last Duel. And we've all experienced it in some form or another in our own lives.
But sometimes an incident occurs that has only one interpretation. Where everyone who witnessed it tells the exact, same version, down to the minutest detail. Will Smith's Oscar slap of Chris Rock is just such an occurrence.
Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Will laughed, along with everyone else. He then turns to Jada, who was not laughing in the slightest. Then he stormed the stage. Delivered the blow. Went back to her side. Yelled at Rock. Then, and only then, did she laugh. The sort of long, loud, hearty laugh that only the truly satisfied experience. Often at another's expense. Which was the case here.
Well now, just over two months later, Jada is laughing no more. She does not take joy in a comedian's humiliation at the literal hand of the man she so publicly and notoriously cucked:
She has reversed her posture of these many weeks, and is now calling for Peace in Our Time:
Source - Jada Pinkett Smith has broken her silence on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Ahead of Wednesday’s episode of “Red Table Talk” centered around alopecia, Pinkett Smith spoke directly to the camera.
“This is a really important ‘Red Table Talk’ on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is,” she said at the start of the Facebook Watch show.
“Now, about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men [Smith and Chris Rock] have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile,” Pinkett Smith said.
“The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together,” she continued. “Thank you for listening.”
You have to admit, that is mighty decent of her. Taking time out of her 28 year journey to figure out this thing called life to bury the hatchet between these two, whom we need more than ever. I wonder when the voting period is for the Nobel Peace Prize, because if it's not to late, she'll win in a landslide. That is, if you can win the award for negotiating the end to a war you yourself started.
Not to put to fine a point on it, but that's precisely what happened here. Simply put, if Will's laughing gaze had been met with Jada laughing back at him with, "Oh, that Chris Rock! What a cut up! Aren't we having a wonderful night? I'm secure enough in myself that I can laugh at my own foibles, which he has so accurately pointed out. His show should've been called Everybody Loves Chris! Because I most certainly do!" there is no slap. No feud. No humiliation. No reason to remember we even had an Oscars since nobody has seen any of the winners. Certainly not the one Will Smith won for.

But she didn't laugh. And the daggers she stared back at her (sometimes) man with started all the hostilities. Like a supervillain, she got a war going between two superpowers, sat back and watched them fire up the missiles. Now she's calling for both sides to stand down, and actually trying to sound magnanimous while doing it.
Though it doesn't sound like the internet is buying that all of a sudden she's some Princess of Peace:
… and of course a lot of this sentiment:
So yeah, nice try. But you can't be the inspiration for and the mastermind behind a vicious slap attack and then try to present yourself as this altruistic, peace-loving soul who wants to beat swords into plowshares. If she was, she'd have settled this whole thing with a text to Chris Rock, instead of breaking a two month silence by calling for reconciliation in the middle of a PSA about alopecia. Here's hoping Rock responds in the same spirit. By telling both Smiths they can have his forgiveness when they come crawling on their hands and knees and beg for it.
