In The Middle Of The Night The Twins Swept In And Signed Carlos Correa Out Of Absolutely Nowhere

??????

Where the hell did this come from? I get up to pee in the middle of the night, check my phone and realize Carlos Correa is a Minnesota Twin?? If I didn't have notifications on for every big baseball reporter I would've assumed it was a fake tweet honestly.

Now you may look at this first glance and laugh at the fact that Carlos Correa was originally seeking the highest paid contract by a shortstop this offseason. He switched agents and hired Boras in an effort to get something over $300 million, but the market just wasn't there for him post-lockout. What's he do instead? He takes a short term deal with high AAV and opt outs after every season so he can in a way bet on himself to try and get his big money next year or in 2024. Honestly pretty good deal on both sides if you ask me. He'll realistically rake their for a year and hit the market again in a real offseason that's not following a lockout. He also could be a trade piece for Minnesota if things really go south.

My initial reaction here as I open my eyes is where the fuck were the Yankees with this? Well, they were used as a pawn by the Twins and got worked as far as I see it. Took them about two decades, but Minnesota finally got a W over the Yankees and it was a masterclass. The Twins went out and got Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Rangers just to flip him to New York so they could dump Josh Donaldson's money. Brian Cashman was that hell bent on getting IKF as a stopgap shortstop that he blinded himself from the possibility of getting a creative deal for Correa done like this one. $105 mill for 3 years with the possibility of it just being one season is the dream contract the Yankees could have only imagined getting Correa on. Nope, instead they add on $50 million from 36 year old Josh Donaldson and sign back Rizzo for his $32 million. That's just an extremely poor way of increasing payroll when you see what Correa ends up going for. I'm sure they never even entertained the thought of signing him too. Didn't sign Correa and literally helped the Twins get him. Fucking Cashman, man that's as bad of a butcher job as I've seen from him.

The Twins don't vault to the top of the division here by any means, but this kind of deal gives their fans something to be excited about. Absolutely no one and their mother saw it coming, but Carlos Correa is a Minnesota Twin. What a mindfuck.

If you're an Astros fan reading this and wondering where you gets were at, it was reported the offer was around $160 mill over 5. Kinda shows you how low his market was aside from maybe the Orioles who were rumored to be in their big. You then have to play for the Orioles your whole career so that's a problem.

P.S. Yankee fans have spent this offseason just dodging big moves from their competition all offseason. Seager and Semien teaming up to go to Texas. Alright they'll be annoying to play, but are they a threat to go to the World Series? Probably not at the moment, that's fine. Freddie Freeman is a free agent, where's he going? Please not the AL East cause you know New York ain't getting him. Ok, LA fine I can live with that. Correa free agent, fuck I pray Boston doesn't get involved here. Ok Minnesota sure, fine. Even someone like Schwarber or Castellanos. Hoping they don't go to Toronto or Boston and instead Philly scoops them up. Just an offseason of praying an American League power doesn't make the big move while Cashman essentially just goes through the motions. Not exactly fun.
