A Mail Carrier Was Arrested After He Allegedly Stole Almost $40,000 Worth Of Sports Cards Straight Out Of The Mail

Stories like these are why I laugh when people say the card bubble has burst. Paul Robinson, a former mail carrier in Kansas City was arrested for stealing nearly $40,000 worth of sports cards from the mail he was delivering. Paul doesn't sound like the brightest one out there because he was caught in his mail carrier uniform going into card stores and selling the cards he was stealing out of the mail. The investigation started when someone complained they never got a Kevin Durant card they paid $1,925 for. It was then found that other cards were missing and 4 of the missing cards all were for sale at a local card shop, the same shop Robinson was on video in his uniform selling cards to. He eventually admitted to stealing the cards, 94 in all for a grand total of $39,994. My guess is Robinson was able to tell when cards were being shipped by the packaging and started picking them off and never thought he'd get caught.

Sure, stuff gets lost in the mail even with tracking numbers and monitoring devices, it happens. But when a few big dollar cards start going missing people are going to do some digging. Luckily for those customers this idiot was in uniform on camera selling them making it easy to trace. Investigators also found 440 other mail items in his house when it was searched, so he wasn't just after cards, he was stealing anything he could. I hope our friend who pulled the Wander Franco 1/1 buys all the insurance and gets every tracking # and serial # associated with his card before sending it out. The hobby is alive and well folks, you better believe it. Is a possible five-years in federal prison worth it for some cards? For sure not.
