(Eyeball Emoji) One Of Aaron Rodgers' Favorite Coaches Ever, Tom Clements, Is Coming Out Of Retirement To Rejoin The Packers
I understand this is a tough moment for all the Broncos truthers out there who were dead set on Rodgers heading there to join up with Hackett in Denver. Drew Lock it is!
The Packers bringing back one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite humans on Earth Tom Clements is as good of a sign as you're going to get with what 12 is planning to do next season. Clements is 68 and is coming out of retirement to be a QB coach, you couldn't make it more obvious if you tried. There is no way in hell that man comes back to Green Bay without knowing Rodgers is going to be there. Matt LaFleur also has zero connection to Clements which shows this was 100% a move made by Aaron Rodgers. It honestly never made sense to me in the first place why they wouldn't value his input considering he is the team. Love to see it.
The several days of meetings that took place between Rodgers, LaFleur, Gute, and other front office officials following the abrupt end of the season were very encouraging signs about his intentions, but this move puts it over the top for me. I'd be beyond stunned if he wasn't back at this point. Whether it's for one year or something like a three year deal where they back load a ton of the money is another question.
Now the reaction from the trolls and haters of Rodgers coming back will certainly be "all this to lose in the NFC Championship again." Buddy, if Aaron Rodgers is my quarterback instead of Jordan Love that's all that matters. The conversation ends right there. There's no reality where I want Jordan Love being the starter at any point in time next season. I've seen and heard quite enough about his prospects to know where we're at. Could he at some point down the road become a solid starter? Of course, but the Packers don't have time for that right now. Rodgers has won the MVP in back to back seasons, you want him back and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. Anyone saying otherwise is a fool or a Bears fan.
Assuming I'm not just imaging all of this, a move that must be made before the NFL Draft trading away Love. Admit the mistake, send the dude to a team that could actually use him, and get back an asset which I hope is around a 2nd rounder. Z is as good as gone which will free up money. The way they restructure Rodgers deal should allow them to take much less of a cap hit than as his contract stands now. They'll be able to get Davante his money and hopefully Jaire as well. If the Rams could afford all those guys over the years then certainly the Packers can find a way to make it work.
Run it back….again, but this time run it back better.
