Calvin Kattar Kicks Off The Year With An Incredible Underdog Win
METHUEN MASSACHUSETTS STAND UP! THE NEW ENGLAND CARTEL IS BACK!
Calvin Kattar went into tonight the underdog, who many wondered about after his loss to Max Holloway almost a year ago today - there were questions about whether or not it "changed him as a fighter" due to the heavy onslaught of strikes he endured. I think a lot of people figured Giga Chikadze would come in and produce a statement victory that flipped their spots in the rankings, continuing his impressive win streak and moving right into title contention....but you can never count on "predictable" outcomes in MMA.
What we witnessed in that main event a few moments ago was an absolute WAR, and it wound up being the New England Cartel's Calvin Kattar who came up on the winning end of it, after spending almost the entire fight on the offensive. Kattar was able to neutralize Giga's signature kicks with relentless forward pressure and a dominant grappling exchange in the first round, and his striking was as sharp as it has ever been. I mean, I have no idea how Chikadze survived some of those elbows....
Couple savages right now. I've been a huge fan of Calvin Kattar for years now, so this victory (especially after the year off) was a blast to watch, especially because I called it....
Wish that happened more often.
Hopefully this win brought some joy to some Patriots fans out there currently suffering. It feels really damn great to have the fights back in our lives.
Already can't wait for next week….
Gonna be tremendous.
