I Had My First Old Bay Hot Chocolate Yesterday And I'm Here To Tell You It Was Absolutely Delicious
I had something on Friday that changed my life. I never knew I needed it until I had it in my hands, now I never want to live without it. Old Bay Hot Chocolate. It's a combination of two of my favorite things, hot chocolate and the glorious blend of herbs and spices that was created and became famous in Baltimore we know as Old Bay. It literally goes on everything, wings, BBQ, crabs, beer, popcorn, mac and cheese, fries, wings, chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing, chips, sunflower seeds and of course hot chocolate. I rarely eat a meal without Old Bay on something on my plate, it’s that good. A bagel place near my was advertising they had this new creation and I had to try it. Even though it was 60 degrees in Maryland on Friday morning I had to rush over and get a hot cup of OBHC. I think I may have been the first person to get it at the store because the lady who made it said "let us know how it tastes, we're all very curious." Trendsetter, I'm a guy who's not afraid of boundaries, so you know I had to dive right in.
I mean look how beautiful that looks. The whipped cream topped with the Old Bay, its erotic almost. I popped the top off and decided to give the people a review....and to no surprise it was great. The mixture of the Old Bay and the chocolate was surprisingly good. The saltiness of the seasoning with the sweetness of the chocolate, oh my goodness. It's a perfect match. I think the whipped cream made the Old Bay spicier for somer reason, but I didn't hate it. It’s basically the same as sea salt on chocolate, people love that so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t like this. The flavors really go well together.
I can see why people would be skeptical though, right off the bat it sounds like it wouldn’t be good. But I need people to grow up and stop being children, just try it. You’ll like it, I promise. And lets get this out of the way, there’s 3 things Maryland people go nuts for. It’s Cal Ripken Jr, the flag, and Old Bay. Get over it. We have a better flag than every other state much better seasoning than any other place in the world. Sorry we come up with very delicious ways to use the seasoning. You’d be obsessed with it too if you lived here.
Overall I gave the Old Bay Hot Chocolate a 7.9, it was really, really good and probably would have been better if it was cooler outside and not like a spring morning. But mark my words, I’ll put Old Bay in every hot chocolate I drink this winter, and you should too. Mature that pallet, make it at home and try it. I guarantee you that you’ll enjoy it. And seriously, next time you’re at the bar have the bartender put a dash of Old Bay on top of your beer. You’ll thank me. 48 hours ago I didn’t know I’d love this but I do.
