Travis Scott and Drake Have Been Slapped With A $750 Million Dollar Lawsuit
NBC - "A lawsuit seeking more than $750 million was filed Tuesday on behalf of at least 125 Astroworld victims, including 21-year-old Axel Acosta, who was killed at the show.
The crowd surge at rapper Travis Scott’s Houston festival left 10 people dead and many more injured. Dozens of lawsuits against Scott and Live Nation Entertainment Inc. have since been filed."
Good for Travis that he was able to patch things up with Kylie as he is about to face one of the biggest civil litigation cases in the history of the music industry. What a fuckin joke.
The $750 million suit was filed yesterday in court by Houston attorney Tony Buzbee on behalf of 125 victims naming Travis Scott, Drake (who had a cameo appearance while the chaos ensued), Live Nation (the event coordinators and ticket sellers), Epic Records, and Apple Music (the streaming partner of the festival) as the defendants.
$750 Million dollars is a lot of freaking money.
Most liberal estimates put Travis's net worth at roughly $60-65 million, add that on to the fact that since only 1 of the 10 victims that passed during this horrible incident is named to the plaintiffs' side, you can expect several more separate lawsuits to be filed. Honestly, this could send Travis to financial ruin. And after all this... would anybody be sad?
Chron - "No amount of money will ever make these plaintiffs whole; no amount of money can restore human life," Buzbee says in the document. "The quantum sought includes sufficient punitive damages to punish and make an example of all involved in the streaming, promotion, organization and failed execution of the concert, and also to encourage those who engage in such activity to do so with safety at the forefront, not just as an afterthought."
CNN - "Two high school students, a man who was trying to save his fiancée and a 9-year-old boy are among 10 people who died after a crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival tragedy in Houston, authorities said."
This is a suit of historic proportions. Festivals should be the place you make memories of a lifetime… no one should have had to go through what these families and victims faced due to the gross negligence of the parties involved.
Condolences and prayers to the victims and their families. Hopefully, this pushes for change going forward and their legacies will be used to improve concert-going experiences and safety precautions for everyone.
