Cooper Rush, The Pride Of Lansing Catholic High School, Just Won A Football Game For The Dallas Cowboys

Sometimes I forget that sports can make you feel something other than complete sadness. Cooper Rush, a member of the 2012 class of Lansing Catholic high school (the high school I graduated from) and a former 4-year starter at Central Michigan (the school I dropped out of), just went to Minnesota and knocked off the Vikings. Rush capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to his namesake Amari Cooper with less than a minute remaining in regulation. 

This was the most emotionally invested I've been in an NFL in years. Maybe it was the emotion of the week finally getting to me. As I've said many times, the weekend of the Michigan/Michigan State game extracts a heavy toll. After Saturday, I pretty much found myself in a fog. But as Cooper was driving the Cowboys down the field late in Sunday's game, I felt like I was 16 years old again watching Cooper throw bombs to Matt Macksood in the district finals. 

This is the fifth season for Cooper Rush in the NFL, and it's his second stint with a Dallas Cowboys team that waived him a year ago after signing Andy Dalton. He came into tonight's game with one career completion for 2 yards. That came against the San Francisco 49ers back in 2017. He hadn't started a game until tonight, and he made the most of it. This was not an instance of him just having to be a game manager and handing it to Ezekiel Elliott four out of every five plays. Kellen Moore's playbook was open, and Cooper delivered with a 325-yard performance. NBC seemed to have a "Rush Cam" set up during the game, showing Cooper's mom and dad reacting to his awesome performance. That stuff is always cool, and it's even cooler when it involves people that you've met. By the way, thank you Mrs. Rush for the hand warmers you gave me back at the Central Michigan homecoming game in 2015 when I was too stupid to realize that maybe I should've worn gloves to a football game where it was 30 degrees at night time. 

Although my brand has essentially been misery since I started making videos on Twitter back in 2017, I quite enjoy it when sports make me feel happy or any emotion other than overwhelming disappointment. This was one of those moments. Congrats Cooper.
