Ricky Gervais: “Today's Younger Generation Will Not Be Woke Enough for the Next Generation” And He Wants To Live Long Enough To See Them Get Eaten Alive
NME - Ricky Gervais wants to live long enough to see the younger generation get called out for not being “woke” enough by the next generation.
The comedian discussed the development of ideologies in the latest episode of his podcast Absolutely Mental with neuroscientist Sam Harris.
Speaking on the show, Gervais said: “I want to live long enough to see the younger generation not be woke enough for the next generation. It’s going to happen.
“Don’t they realise that, it’s like, they’re next. That’s what’s funny.”
He added: “We kicked out the old guard. We did it. There’s only so woke and liberal you can get and then you start going the other way. But it’s inevitable.”
Speaking earlier this year, The Office star and co-creator believes the show would fall victim to ‘cancel culture’ if it aired today.
“I mean now it would be cancelled,” Gervais said. “I’m looking forward to when they pick out one thing and try to cancel it. Someone said they might try to cancel it one day, and I say, ‘Good let them cancel it. I’ve been paid!’”
Ricky Gervais is a national, international treasure.
I would go to war for this guy.
And I think millions of other people with level heads, and common sense would join in as well. Because Ricky isn't afraid to tell it how it is. He not only gives zero fucks, but he is so intelligent and eloquent that his delivery scares the hell out the "mob". In that sense, he's somewhat taken the torch from the late, great (in my opinion the greatest of all time) George Carlin.
How else can you explain his imperviousness to the brainless and illogical attacks against anybody that dares share an opinion publicly today?
These comments couldn’t be more spot on.
The younger generation’s of today search even harder than Roger Goodell looked through The Washington Football Team’s emails for reasons to cancel somebody or something. They search with a fine tooth comb through old social media posts, podcasts, anything anybody went on the public record with- and now, even things discussed in private, for shit they can call them out on publicly.
Virtue signaling as its called.
And Ricky Gervais couldn’t be more correct.
When these kids turn into adults, and get a taste of their own medicine, it’s going to be like watching a monkey shit fight.
The cancellers being cancelled by their offspring is going to be sweet sweet irony on the grandest scale. So Ricky’s right, I hope we’re all alive to witness it.
He’s also right about his take on The Office getting torn to shreds were it to premiere today. I haven’t watched the British version, but a good friend that has run through the series numerous times swears to me that it makes the “Diversity Day” episode seem tame. And we’re getting to the point now in this country where that’s being pulled off the air…
I’d love to get Ricky’s take on the whole Chapelle controversy. Even though we can confidently assume what it would be.
Can you imagine if Don Rickle’s were alive today and trying to do comedy?
They would legit have him tried for terrorism and crucified publicly.
