10 Movies and 3 Shows You Should Stream This Weekend (SPOOKY EDITION)

Movies

1. The Shining - HBO Max - 97/100: Not only is it arguably the greatest horror movie ever, it is also one of the greatest movies ever period.

2. The Evil Dead - HBO Max - 93/100: The Raimi-Campbell combination has made some great work, but Evil Dead is the best.

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street - HBO Max - 90/100: Freddy Kreuger is one of the iconic horror villains from that era along with Meyers & Jason. The sequels aren't as good, but the original still holds up great.

4. Fear Street Trilogy - Netflix: This trilogy releasing over the summer is still baffling. The first movie is just ok, but the 2 sequels are increasingly better. It has a cool story that is relatively original and well acted.

5. Train to Busan - Hulu - 95/100: The zombie genre is absolutely oversaturated. WAYYYYY to much going on there, right? At least, that is what I thought until I watched this Korean zombie movie. It's really refreshing for those of you looking for something new from the genre.

6. A Quiet Place - Paramount+ - 81/100: Original, interesting and well acted. I still think there was some room for improvement, but this is still a fun and terrifying watch.

7. Hellraiser - Prime video - 80: I have a massive love/hate relationship with this movie. I love it because it is scary and the creature design is amazing. I also hate it for those reasons as well and because it gave me a shit ton of nightmares.

8. Apostle - Netflix - 80: This movie kind of flew under the radar and I'm not sure why. It's from Gareth Evans, the mind behind 'The Raid' and stars Dan Stevens from 'Leigon', and is all about a freaky cult in England.

9. The Ring - Hulu - 80: The Ring is still horrifying to me. Maybe because it's a "this could still happen to me" type of situation.

10. Vampires Vs. The Bronx - 90 - Netflix: This is a fun, original, quick horror movie that I think a lot of you would love if you gave it a chance.

Will Compton Guest Pick: Halloween (Shudder, Roku, Hoopla, Vudu): Like I mentioned with Nightmare, Halloween is one of the movies that built the modern genre of horror.

Taylor Lewan Guest Pick: Friday the 13th (Vudu): Obviously the Bussin Boys were gonna pick these two classics, and I'm glad they did. Jason is such a great villain, but I also want to note how the franchise might have one of the steepest drop-offs I've ever seen.

Shows

1. American Horror Story - Netflix: Like I always say with an anthology, the good thing about them is that you can pick and choose which ones you watch. Personally, I think season 1, 2 and 3 are the best. But horror is in the eye of the beholder.

2. Lovecraft Country - HBO Max: I still can't believe they cancelled this show. It has a fantastic cast, really interesting storyline and creepy horror that HBO worked perfectly.

3. Parasyte - HBO Max: This is an anime, so shield your eyes if that isn't your thing. This is a short and sweet one with really cool body horror elements. I've heard the Manga is even better, but unfortunately, I can't read.
