If You're Going To Cheat At Least Try And Hide It, Maybe Don't Use A Bright Red Glove If You're Going To Hide Your Pine Tar In It

Come on man, we just had a whole big discussion about this last week. We know pitchers are using substances, everyone sees you touch your glove or your hat or your belt but you can't make it this obvious. There was a whole big ordeal last week with Giovanny Gallegos and the Cardinals for a spot on his hat, and you're going to go out there and be this obvious?

James Karinchak has been NAILS so far for Cleveland, I mean absolutely fantastic this season. 2.92 ERA, 7 saves, 1.014 WHIP, has only given up 12 hits, 13 walks, and has 44 Ks in 24.2 innings pitched. He's really good. But what he isn't good at is hiding the pine tar. We've seen plenty of pitchers be accused of stuff this season, touching the inside webbing of their glove with their index and middle finger, likely dabbing some pine tar on it. I noticed most of the pitchers we've seen do that wear black gloves. Pine tar is black so you can't see it in the black glove, it makes sense. Karinchak either is an idiot or just doesn't care if he gets caught because he's using a BRIGHT RED GLOVE with black pine tar in the webbing, making it super obvious. I mean you can literally see the glob of pine tar right there. This is the slippery slope MLB has to deal with, you flip out over a dark spot on a hat you have to address a glob of black stuff in a red glove.

Steve Stone from the White Sox announcing crew couldn't help himself but call it out, and I don't blame him. It was pretty clear that he was using something in his glove while pitching, I guess White Sox manager Tony LaRussa couldn't see it or wasn't aware of it, but he certainly seemed to be right on top of Gallegos last week. Hmm. The story isn't that Karinchak was likely cheating, we know guys are cheating in baseball. It's the fact that he just doesn't give a shit. This is like keeping your cheat sheet right on top of your desk when the teacher is handing out the test. I'm more surprised that someone hasn't made him change the red glove if they knew he was going to put pine tar in it. At least make an attempt to hide it, I'm very surprised this wasn't called out during the game. I will bet that he either comes out with a different color glove next game or at least gets roughed up a bit without the pine tar in his glove.
