Minor Leaguer Nik Turley Was Tossed From A Game And It Took Three Teammates To Stop Him From Ripping Apart The Umpire With His Bare Hands

Rough night on the bump for Charlotte Knights pitcher Nik Turley. He struck out the first 2 guys he faced, one to end the 8th and the first batter of the 9th. Seemed like smooth sailing until he walked the next 2 guys. He obviously thought he was getting squeezed and did not agree with home plate umpire Jacob Metz and his strike zone. The Knights call a mound visit and Metz decides they're taking too long and heads on out there to tell the boys to break it up. That also did not sit well with Turley and they start yapping. Metz calmly gives him the toss, enjoy your early shower Nik! Knights Manager Wes Helms starts talking to the umpire and the announcers are very confused. Was it Turley who was tossed, was it Helms? They think Helms was thrown out but then realize he wasn't thrown out until the umpire threw him out a second later. Ejections everywhere and no one knows what is going on.

All hell breaks loose and like a bat out of hell Turley tries to go after Metz. He says something and you can see one of the players rush in and grab him from behind and pulls him to the ground, and while that is happening the manger is STILL giving it to the ump. Turley gets back up and keeps trying to get the ump. Two more Knights have to restrain him while the rest of the players are just standing there in awe of what they're seeing. There must have been some nasty things said when Metz came out to break it up. Eventually you have 3 Knights holding Turley back with the catcher standing in-between the players and the umpire trying to protect him. Turley won't stop either, he is still jawing even with half his team holding him back. Madness all over.

They eventually try and walk him off the mound but he's still yapping. Eventually he gets into the dugout and unloads a kick on a helmet. I couldn't find videos or a breakdown of the pitches that Turley was mad about but they had to have been terrible calls to warrant a reaction like this, right? Unless there was previous beef between the two it seems like a strange thing to have a blowup like that happen. Bad calls happen, pitchers get pissed, but very rarely do you see a pitcher get tossed and then try to go after the umpire. The boys were fired up tonight and they had no problem letting it show, have to think a suspension for Turley is coming down soon. Would still love to know what ticked him off that much, couldn't have been just a bad strike zone.
