Videos Of The Iron Dome In Israel Intercepting Rockets Mid-Air Are INCREDIBLE
Obviously a VERY scary situation over in Israel right now. I won't even begin to pretend to have a firm grasp on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I feel like we haven't heard of anything coming out of that region since Jared Kushner was basically accepting the Nobel Peace Prize for signing some deal. Fast forward 9 months or so and you see headlines like this one

The "Iron Dome" is simply incredible to watch. It's eerily beautiful. If you didn't know better you'd think it was the most impressive fireworks show you've ever seen. Which I guess it is, essentially, but it is just extremely high stakes because if it doesn't work then people die. Extremely scary stuff. I can't even imagine what it would be like to grow up in a place like that regardless of which side you're on. Constantly living on the precipice of war has to give you extreme anxiety every single day. The fact that this Iron Dome is necessary just to exist is crazy.
How it works....also crazy. Human beings are so fucking smart and so fucking dumb all at the same time. Smart: Create a system of missile defense that can launch and intercept rockets traveling hundreds of miles per hour in mid-air. Dumb: blowing each other up with rockets and missiles for 70(or 6000) years.
