We Need CM Punk To Come Back So Every Interview Doesn't Talk About When CM Punk Is Coming Back

CM Punk hasn't wrestled since 2014. Think about that for a second. That says 2 things to me- 1) time flies. How has it already been 7 years since CM Punk laced up his boots and entered the squared circle? And 2) CM Punk was so wildly popular that even 7 years later, people are STILL talking about him coming back, ad nauseam. It's been non-stop for nearly a decade and it ramps up near Wrestlemania season, the whispers, the comments, and the questions about "when is CM Punk coming back?".

Well, this year is no different. With Mania day 1 (yes, it's a 2 day WrestleMania this year!) tomorrow, the big hitters like HHH are making the promotional rounds, and of course the CM Punk question came up on Pardon My Take. HHH replied:

Last time I talked to him, a year in a half-a year and three quarters ago. It’s a funny thing that people will constantly say ‘when’s his return is?’ But in some way I don’t know whether he does or not, but that has to be what he wants. When people talk about ‘well make the call!’ Who says if we make the call he wants to answer? Who says we make the call and he says ‘yeah, I’m not interested in doing that anymore.’ Maybe he’s just done with it. I think that those are conversations that only those people can directly answer. I think if he wants to do it, either we would get word, we would have those conversations or he would make a call. There has to be desire there to do something like that. This business is too all-in to just like ‘ehhh alright I’ll do it.”

And there we go! HHH talked to him about a year and a half ago, and they still have no idea what Punk wants to do. In my heart of hearts, I don't think he is done wrestling. I think he is an extremely proud, head-strong guy who left on his own terms because he wasn't satisfied with the way the business was treating him. But I also think he still loves the business (remember, wrestlers are wired so differently and they take bumps until they literally can't walk anymore) and has another run inside of him. Now, if that comes in WWE or AEW is the $10 million question. Punk going to AEW would be a mainstream move and would definitely spark something similar to the old Monday Night Wars, and would possibly be the biggest shocking wrestling moment since Hogan joined the NWO.

Side Note: Back in 2016 I was the best wrestling blogger on the entire internet. I was so good at it. But after that Wrestlemania in Dallas, which is perhaps the worst Mania ever, I really fell off and I haven't really recovered. Some NXT stuff here and there, I still will watch a PPV here and there or a big match, but I really, truly fell off after that Mania. It sucks but I think eventually there will be something that pulls me back in…and CM Punk could end up being that thing…
