Bo Burnham Has Been Cast As Larry Bird In A New HBO Series

Bo Burnham has been cast as Boston Celtics star Larry Bird in HBO’s upcoming series about the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s.

The untitled series was ordered at HBO in December 2019. It is described as chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties, in what came to be called the Showtime Era.

Before any of you get upset, keep in mind that this is an Adam McKay produced joint. For those of you that may be unfamiliar with the name Adam McKay at first glance, you actually are familiar with him. He directed 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy', 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby', 'Step Brothers', 'The Other Guys' as well as one of the best non-comedies in the last decade, 'The Big Short'. He was also an executive producer on 'Eastbound and Down' and one of the greatest shows on television, 'Succession'. Oh, and for fellow huge fans of 'The Other Guys', in addition to directing it he also played Dirty Mike.

So if you're the worlds #1 Bird stan and you were worried this might besmirch the hick from French Lick's legacy, have no fear. McKay is directing the pilot of this series that will go through the history of the Showtime lakers and I would bet that it is going to be absolutely amazing and probably very funny. Also, Bo Burnham will deliver not only a funny interpretation of Bird, but standing at 6'5 he is also not that much shorter than Larry Legend himself!

Burnham is the latest star to join the HBO series. In the past few weeks, Adrien Brody, Sally Field, and Michael Chiklis all joined the show as Pat Riley, Jessie Buss, and Red Auerbach respectively.

The series also stars: John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss, Jason Clarke as Jerry West, Quincy Isaiah as Magic Johnson, Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
