Ron Rivera Is Being Asked About Cam Newton And....Well....He Isn't Ruling Anything Out

And here...we....gooooooo.

The Washington Football QB situation is a tricky one. The old saying "if you have 3 QBs you don't have 1" has never been more true than it is right now. Currently the QB room is a bunch of "uhhhh....maybe?" guys.

You have Taylor Heinicke, who went from XFL backup to 1 play away from beating Tom Brady and the Bucs in the playoffs.

You have Kyle Allen, who apparently Riverboat is in love with, but hasn't ever shown he can be a full time starter in the league.

And then you have trade possibilities (Deshaun, Wilson, Darnold) and the draft (maybe someone slides to 19 that they can't pass up). Now obviously if Deshaun or Russell Wilson come to town, there's no QB controversy. But if we nab a QB in the first round, we're sitting at a 3-way QB competition of unproven guys. Not the situation any of us want to be in.

And then....you have Cam Newton.

Well, well, well. Coach Rivera obviously has no correct way to answer this question. He's not going to be on record ruling it out, and and he'd be dumb to be on record saying "yes, I want Cam". I have not a single clue what I would think if this team signed Cam. Not a clue. I mean, I'd have no choice but to root for his crazy ass, and I have a proven very long track record rooting for bad quarterbacks, so that won't be a problem. But do we actually want Cam? Right now I'd say probably not. He was so bad this last year in New England...but then again, he was an MVP with Ron in Carolina so maybe that's all he needs? Maybe Ron is who gave Cam all his superhero powers to begin with and reuniting will make him a Super Bowl QB once again.

Do I think Cam will be in DC? Heart of hearts, no. Do I think Ron is thinking about it though? Yes, of course. The NFL is weird. Crazier things have happened. I don't thinkkkkk this will, but I cannot fully rule it out. And if Ron does pull the trigger on Cam, boy, I cannot wait to go all in 100% on him.
