The Governor Of Maryland Announces Camden Yards Will Be Allowed To Open At 50% Capacity As Of Friday. NO ATTENDANCE JOKES!
This is huge! A huge step towards fans being allowed back in the best ballpark in baseball for Opening Day on April 8th. Governor Hogan announced today that sporting venues will be able to open at 50%. Now while everyone automatically thinks this means that fans will 100% be in the stands on April 8th, we still have to hear from the Mayor of Baltimore and the team. It's expected that the team will address the situation this week.
So if the Orioles or the Mayor don't feel comfortable with allowing 50% in or any fans at all, that is something that has to be figured out before we all start buying our tickets. The O's have been working with the Maryland Stadium Authority and Health Department about the correct plan to make this a go but still no final say has been made on it. It's obviously a very fluid situation but it's absolutely a step in the right direction. The mask mandate and 6-foot distancing rules will still be applied at Camden Yards and it'll probably be the pod style seating. Either way, 50% is huge and I will not be looking at any attendance jokes for the Orioles, please do NOT make those jokes. It feels like there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we're slowly approaching it, the return of fans to MLB parks is a big step for sure.
And as Governor Hogan said above, it's going to be very safe if this happens. They won't take any half measures and I fully trust the team to do the right and safe thing. Now it's the waiting game. Does the Mayor give it the OK? Does he take the limit down any more? Does it postpone it for a few months to let more citizens get the vaccine? We'll just have to wait, but this is a fantastic start to the process. Hopefully see you at the yard soon? Mask and 6 feet away of course!
