It's An Absolute Bloodbath For No. 1 Seeds In Conference Tournaments Today

It's that time of the year man. I said today is usually a bonkers day where we have end of regular season games happening, mid-major tournaments and the OVC title. It's living up to it strictly on this alone. 3 No. 1 seeds all down before the conference finals. All for three different reasons too. Navy truly became the first realistic tournament team that was just fucked by COVID. They didn't have two starters including its best player in Cam Davis. That's a tough beat for a Navy team that's pretty damn good. Feel for Ed DeChellis there.

Then you go to the NEC and Wagner loses. At some point Wagner's gotta win one of these things. Bashir Mason is one of the best young coaches out there and Wagner just keeps falling short in the NEC Tournament. This is now the 3rd time they've lost in the NEC Tournament as the 1 seed under Wagner.

Then there's the UMBC/UMass-Lowell game. First off, what a win and cover by the River Hawks. Thought we were dead at +6 when they were down 13 with 10 to go. Instead Connor Withers goes 9-for-fucking-13 from three during the game. Dude was just absolutely on fire.

Then they somehow had this defensive possession to win. I still can't believe they didn't call a foul or that UMBC didn't get a shot to fall.

There's some beautiful irony to UMBC losing as a No. 1 seed. I refuse to check their Twitter account though. So what does this all mean? It means some of these low-major teams have a chance to avoid a 16 seed. If Vermont wins the America East, they were never going to be a 16 seed. The NEC is going to be a 16 seed. The Patriot League has Colgate alive for a 13/14 seed. But there are now more chances for other conferences to jump to the 15 seed line. Doesn't sound like much but more than 1 15 seed has beaten a 2. Shit, two 15s won on the same glorious day. Shout out Kyle O'Quinn and Norfolk State. Shout out CJ McCollum and Lehigh.

Welcome to March.
