Of Course Philip Rivers Is Automatic From The Free Throw Line And Once Hit 97 Out Of 100 Shots To Win A Bet Against Frank Reich

Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich wrote an essay for the most recent Peter King's Football Morning in America about the recently retired quarterback. Reich related a story about how Rivers showed his competitiveness, Indiana style. (This exchange came during Reich's time as Rivers' quarterbacks coach in San Diego.)

"One day—I don’t know how the subject came up—a bunch of us were talking free-throw shooting. Philip said, I’m over 90 percent. We’re all like, No way. So we made a wager: shoot 100 free throws, and he had to make at least 80. He went out there on the hoop we had at camp, and he made 97. We were blown away. But that wasn’t enough. He figured, I’ll show you. Those guys went out there 10 straight days to shoot free throws, 100 a day. And he made, like, 946 out of 1,000. He didn’t even have to do that—he already won the bet. But that’s Philip."

I mean this is the biggest no brainer stat ever, right? That's not a quarterback thing or a clutch thing or even a competitiveness thing for Philip Rivers. That's a dad thing. There are certain things that change after you stick your penis in a woman, impregnate her and a baby arrives 9 months later. You gain some dad strength, lose a bunch of energy whenever you sit in a recliner, and walk up the stairs with much more force.

In addition to all that, your basketball game changes once that baby pops out. That first step slowly disappears along with your handle and they are replaced by the ability to back down any punk younger than you in the post and hit almost all of your free throws (the bank is always open if you're a dad too). It's just a simple of fact of life that they even did a Sport Science segment on once. Every time Mrs. Rivers gave birth to a baby, Philip Rivers' free throw shooting went up a little bit overall. As a reminder, this is what the Rivers family looked like before Phil was even drafted.

Add in 8 more kids as well as Rivers' weird throwing motion and it's safe to say that every time Philip Rivers went outside to shoot hoops to escape the craziness of his house, he went all PHILIP RIVERRRRRRRRS on the net of his basket.

Yup, that was a straight up sucker bet for Frank Reich.
