It's An Awesome Move That Aziz Ansari Signs Copies Of His Book When He's Bored At The Airport
God dammit that’s a great move. I know some people are going to say it’s big timey or douchey, but that’s just being a h8er. It’s a a fucking awesome move to sign copies of your own book at airports. There’s 2 things that I know– EVERYONE buys a book at the airports, and people fucking love autographs.
I cannot tell you how many books I’ve bought at airports that I’ve never read. No joke in college I bought that 10,000 page Fountainhead book. I’ve read 0 words of it. 0. But it was there and I was in college and about to take a long flight, so I scooped it up. But oh yea, I sleep on every flight from the moment I sit down to the moment we land. There’s no reason I should ever have a book in my hands on an airplane (or otherwise), but it’s something in the water at airports that makes me buy books. If I saw Aziz’s book and it was signed, I’d probably buy two of them. Might even glance inside when they are teaching me how to fasten my seatbelt (which at this point if you don’t know how, Tommy will come back there and hit you over the head with a tack hammer because you are a retard.)
And the other part, is people fucking love autographs. They love them. I think everyone at some point was big into autographs. Showing up early to ball games to get your glove signed, shit like that. It’s actually a weird phenomenon when you think about it—why does someone scribbling their name give something value? It’s kind of weird, but signing books is a great way to sell them. Any old lady at Hudson News who saw that would definitely scoop it up for their grandchildren. Aziz is just selling books guerrilla marketing style.
