David Tyree Says The Giants Organization 'Got Weird' A Couple Years Ago When The 'Culture Shifted' ... Think We Know The EXACT Moment

[Post] - “I wouldn’t say it’s weird at all. Things got ‘weird’ a couple years ago when the culture shifted,” Tyree told The Post.

“That starts with Coach [Tom] Coughlin walking out the door. I think they are moving in the right direction … but they had some other goals as far as aligning the franchise. I certainly was blessed to have that opportunity, and I don’t take anything for granted, so I don’t feel like anybody owes me anything.”

“I’ve been a part of the successful years and the turnaround,” said Tyree, who wore the Giants uniform from 2003-08. “What we had is absolutely gone.

“There is always a time for new and you can recreate something special. I’m not talking about ‘Keep the good old days going.’ There were things that needed to go. I’m just saying honestly there was a special culture set in place with the leaders there. You can easily chuck the baby with the bath water with change, and that often happens in athletic circles. I think that’s what happened years ago.”

I don't think it's necessarily shocking to hear someone like Tyree (or anyone from that era) talking about the culture changing. The Giants are a fucking mess. I like Joe Judge, as does Tyree, he's not the problem. It's pretty clear to pinpoint the moment when the culture changed.

The moment our beloved Ben McAdoo went from this goofy bowl cut, XXL suit wearing offensive genius to slicked back hair bad guy. I don't think it's a coincidence the last time the Giants made the playoffs was when we had a big goofy lovable guy on the sidelines. You think the culture changed? That was the moment.

That or when they hired Pat fucking Shurmur. I still can't believe that's where the Giants went after McAdoo. That guy is a certifiable loser and proved it as a head coach again. That one made no sense then again I'm very much in the boat of stop hiring guys who can't hold a head coaching job. They stink for a reason. Give me the Joe Judge's of the world. Give me the younger guy who can try and fix shit. Because that's what Joe Judge has to do. He has to change the culture, he has to make improvements at nearly every position. He's already proving the defensive side - I actually enjoy watching the Giants play defense. They are above average at it!

So here's to Judge changing the culture. I'd start by not extending Daniel Jones. That and starting to make better first round draft picks. That's the scary thing - the draft has actually been okay in the later rounds. Gettleman has even made decent free agent signings - looking at you Blake Martinez and James Bradberry. But it's time for the culture change. Here's to good juju:
