Hocus Pocus Is Officially Being Remade With The Entire Original Cast Plus (Allegedly) A Major Lesbian Story Line

Source - After rumors floated earlier this year that the cult classic “Hocus Pocus” will get a highly anticipated sequel on Disney+, Bette Midler — the original Winifred Sanderson — has confirmed that she, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will also return to their spellbinding roles.

Midler, 74, recently appeared on Fox 5’s “Good Day New York” and dropped a major hint when asked about whether or not she would be returning for a new installment.

“They want to make a movie; they’ve asked us if we were interested, and, of course, all of us said yes,” Midler said. “I’m game. I’m totally game.”

As of now, there is no date set for “Hocus Pocus 2” to cast its spell on Disney+.

Well there you have it, one of the greatest Halloween movies of all time is officially being remade. We spoke about it at length on this week's Out & About, but my general opinion is this...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's great that they're using the same cast, but that movie came out twenty-seven years ago. Do they even remember how to play the characters? Can Bette hit the high notes? What about Book? Is book still alive? Is Bette still alive?!? KFC ranted about it and voiced some similar concerns but it will never live up to the original. Nothing ever does. Here's his take..

They also decide to allegedly include a big time lesbian story line because why not? You've got to appeal to your base…

Max and Allison, who appeared in the first film, are now all grown up and married. Their daughter, Poppy, finds herself face-to-face with the Sanderson sisters who’ve returned to wreak havoc on Salem once again.

While it might not sound like the most inspired sequel plot, one thing that readers have noticed is that the story is noticeably more diverse than the original.

As well as featuring two people of colour in the main trio, Autostraddle has reported that the story features a same-sex romantic interest for lead Poppy in the form of classmate Isabella, who has an unusual interest in the supernatural.

^^Kate and I break down the decision to make Poppy gay in this week's Out & About so make sure to check out HERE. We also talk about why the Sanderson Sisters are gay icons, TikTok stars branding the term 'homie-sexual', answer a few listener questions and more. Click the link below to listen. Have a great Wednesday.
