Yahoo – Viacom’s Nickelodeon is partnering with NBA star Carmelo Anthony on a line ofTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles inspired consumer products. […. The New York Knicks star and self-professed Turtles super-fan will serve as creative director of Turtles by Melo, a consumer products line inspired by the Nickelodeon franchise. It is expected to span lifestyle products, home furnishings, publishing, video games and more. Turtles by Melo is set to debut in the spring 2016, ahead of the summer theatrical release of Viacom-owned Paramount Pictures’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, in which Anthony has a cameo. “I am so excited about the opportunity to work with the Nickelodeon team on this new Turtles ?venture,” said Anthony. “The Turtles were a big part of my childhood. I have been connecting with the brand for a long time,” Anthony, 31, tells The Hollywood Reporter. Nowadays, “I watch with my son,” who is 8, he adds.

ESPNNBA star Carmelo Anthony is joining the ranks of sports team owners. The New York Knicks forward announced at a Thursday news conference that his new club, Puerto Rico FC, will join the North American Soccer League and begin play in 2016. “My passion for soccer has always been there,” Anthony told ESPN FC in an exclusive interview. “I just always kept it to myself and among my circle. Going to games, sneaking into games and just watching and being around the sport over the years. The more time I started spending in Puerto Rico over the past six, seven years I realized that there was kind of a void down there on my island. The island didn’t really have anything that they could kind of call their own, that they could represent not just on the island but from a global standpoint.”

Just the sort of news you want to be hearing about your franchise superstar in June. This time of year you hope you’re debating his performance in the NBA Finals. You hope you’re talking about your $130 million player and whether or not he can get the last 2 wins to hoist that title.

But here we are in New York, talking about Nickelodeon and soccer. Designing fucking Ninja Turtles and buying Puerto Rican soccer teams. Not even a goddam MLS team. Some North American Soccer League. Just such a perfect microcosm for Carmelo. That global brand continues to grow. Diving into the world of Nickelodeon cartoons, owning teams in other sports when you cant even succeed at your own.

Of course if he was winning and doing all this shit nobody would care. If he was contending for rings and wanted to design Ninja Turtles, more power to him. But when theres a guy who took Melo’s scrubs and he’s going game for game against Steph Curry and the Warriors 2 wins away from a title, its tough to stomach Carmelo talking about designing fucking Ninja Turtle home furnishings. One thing at a time Melo. Lets focus on not being the worst team in basketball first and put all the rest of that shit on the back burner.
