9 Years Ago Today David Freese Pulled Off Some Of The Greatest Post-Season Heroics Of Our Lifetime

Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, and down by 2 runs with only 1 runner in scoring position.  It doesn't get much more dire than that and if you are a die-hard Rangers fan, I can't even imagine what this moment felt like from your side of things.  As with most people from St. Louis, I think its fair to say that this is the most insane baseball moment of my lifetime that I personally remember.  The drama of the entire situation was unreal.  Even the way that Nelson Cruz ran back towards the ball in the air made you think there was a decent chance it was going to be caught, right until you saw him do that weird hop and the ball go flying off the wall.  It was such a relief and release during a moment you thought would be the end of the World Series dream, that it will be tough to ever match for as long as the Cardinals play in St. Louis.  The Lafayette product saving the season in front of a packed-to-the-gills Busch Stadium is just incredible.

The fact that he came back to hit that solo bomb to Center Field in extras makes it almost too good to be true.  Straight to DEAD CENTER with a nuke that flipped the city upside-down and turned David Freese into a legend forever.  Imagine a hometown kid winning a game for St. Louis in overtime deep into the postseason?  On the way to a championship?  That is some serious movie type stuff, there's no way that would ever happen again...
