Rest in peace... Up in smoke

This is a quick one...

I think most people know the name RUN DMC.

For those who don't, it was a rap trio that hit their stride in the mid-'80s and continued to make records through 2001. The group had three members: Joseph Simmons (Run) and Darryl McDaniel (DMC) were the rappers, and Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay) was the DJ.

Their debut album hit in 1984 when I was 13 years old, and they quickly wound up becoming my favorite rap artists.  Fast forward 35 years, and I've been lucky enough to meet both Run and DMC on a few occasions, including a one-on-one interview I had with Reverend Run in the Sirius studios last year.

I never met Jam Master Jay, and I never will because he was shot in 2002, and it was released just this year that the circumstances surrounding his death involved 10 kilos of coke and a drug deal that went wrong.

The reason I am taking this musical and cocaine-laced trip down memory lane is a buddy showed me this today…

Jam Master Jay's sons, TJ and Jesse Mizell, are taking a slightly different route than their father and are trying to LEGALLY sell drugs in their late dad's memory.

JAM MASTER JAYS will be 4 premium Cannabis joints (2 grams total) sold in a modified cassette tape holder.

They go on sale on October 30th and it looks like they will be offered exclusively through a fully licensed dispensary in Los Angeles County called Maywood Cookies.

Full disclosure: I don't smoke weed… Just doesn't agree with me and I really don't have any room in my bloated body for another vice.

However, I could see myself buying a couple of these stupid things and giving them out to friends who used to hang out with me on a stoop in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn in the mid-80s and pretend to be black.

Probably throw a couple more in the cart for Rear Admiral.

Take a report.
