A New Netflix Western Is On The Horizon And It's Building An Amazing Cast

'Lovecraft Country' star Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba are toplining Netflix's all-Black Western.

Joker actress Zazie Beetz, Da 5 Blood’s Delroy Lindo, Sorry to Bother You star Lakeith Stanfield, and Watchmen topliner Regina King have been lassoed for The Harder They Fall, a Western revenge thriller from Netflix.

Danielle Deadwyler (Atlanta), Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class), RJ Cyler (Scream: The TV Series) are also on the Wanted poster, joining headliners Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba as the production seeks to get back on the saddle after being derailed by the coronavirus shutdown.

The script, by Samuel and Boaz Yakin, follows outlaw Nat Love (Majors), who, upon discovering that the man (Elba) who killed his parents two decades previously is being released from prison, reunites with his gang to track his enemy down and seek his revenge.

Allow me to start by admitting that I fucking love westerns. From old timey spaghetti ones to the Sheridan Neo-westerns, I love them, Solitude, sweeping landscapes, revenge, some gunplay, what's better than that? So I may be a little biased in saying I cannot wait for this. In addition to the concept and presumptive budget it will get from Netflix, this cast is incredible. Majors has been coming into his own as a bona fide leading mad, and did great work in 2 incredibly underrated movies to me in 'The Last Black Man in San Francisco' and 'Hostiles'. Combining him with the veteran, sexy presence of Idris Elba is a win-win. For those of you that saw the absolute piece of garbage that was 'The Dark Tower', yes, this news reminded me of that....

But we are going to forget about that trash and focus on the future, which now includes Oscar-winner Regina King, who is fresh off one of the better shows in the last decade in 'Watchmen'. In addition they have Delroy Lindo, who I think should win (so far) and will definitely at the least be nominated for best supporting actor for his role in 'Da 5 Bloods'. Also Lakeith Stanfield, who you will recognize for his amazing work in 'Get Out' , 'Sorry to Bother You', 'Uncut Gems' and 'Knives Out. Lastly, Zazie Beetz, who was most recently in 'Joker' but was extremely badass in 'Deadpool 2'

Having a rookie feature director in Jeymes Samuel behind the wheel gives me a little pause, but he is a talented dude and everyone starts somewhere. He co-wrote the script with Boaz Yakin, who directed 'Remember the Titans' and is an accomplished screenwriter.
