Today In Nostalgia TV Reboot News: Tim "The Toolman" Taylor And Al Borland Are Coming Back To TV As Hosts Of A DIY Competition Show
Variety- There’s a “Home Improvement” reunion on the cards at History. The network has issued a 10-episode order for an unscripted series called “Assembly Required” (working title) which will star Tim Allen and be hosted by Richard Karn.
“Assembly Required” is described as a competition series which is sounding the call for those with a can-do attitude to take back their sense of purpose and awaken their inner builder. Its aim is to spotlight the best and brightest builders from across the country, at their home workshops, as they compete to breathe new life into everyday household items in desperate need of fixing. In each episode, Allen and Karn will also dive into the unique history around these items to celebrate the men and women who crafted them. The show is slated to launch on History sometime in 2021.
I didn't have Tool Time on my Reboot BINGO card, likely because both of the hosts had been fake killed off on social media during this extremely wild year (one of them courtesy of the PMT AWLs).
I also didn't know there was interest in a DIY show hosted by two actors that played tool men on a TV show that was canceled more than 20 years ago. However, the hottest DIY show on the planet is hosted by an ex-Marine that can't even control his own bowel movements and hired a handyman to do all of his work around the house until quarantine started.
So if Tim and Al want to try to recreate that cinematic magic they had last century, I'm all for it. ESPECIALLY after reading Tim Allen's statement:
“Let’s face it, we’re living in a throwaway society,” said Allen in a statement. “We buy, break, replace… rinse and repeat. Whatever happened to repair and rebuild?! There are some people who unfriend, unfollow and dispose of anything that offends, annoys or breaks – so I’ve created a show to remind people of the satisfaction and pride that comes from rebuilding something on their own. And who better to join me than my buddy from the old Tool Time days – Richard Karn! Now we’re talking More Power! Albert Einstein once said, ‘I’m not a genius, I’m just passionately curious.’ Well, let’s get curious! Even a chimpanzee would at least show interest, right? Wait – I think I just came up with another idea for the show! R-R-R!”

If Tim Allen grunts at me like Tim The Toolman via a statement in the year 2020 of our Lord, you better believe I am tuning in to whatever he's pushing. R-R-R!!!

In fact, why stop there? Old man Binford should have enough money to throw around to lock up some more favorites from Home Improvement. I'm sure JTT's schedule is wiiiiiiide open along with Pam Anderson's and the girl that played Heidi.
And yes for those wondering, I did look it up and unfortunately the guy who played Wilson passed away back in 2003. RIP to a legend who proved that its not just good fences that make good neighbors.
