San Francisco Is Banning Giants Players From Dipping During Games

(Source)The long-standing combination of baseball and chewing tobacco will no longer be allowed in San Francisco. San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee signed an ordinance Friday that bans the use of smokeless tobacco at all sporting venues in the city, which includes AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. The ordinance, which will take effect Jan. 1, 2016, makes it illegal for anyone — including players — to use smokeless tobacco at the venues.

Are you kidding me? You can’t dip during a baseball game? That’s an integral part of America’s pastime. This will obviously play a part in San Francisco’s ability to recruit free agents so if I was the Giants GM I’d find a way to oust this mayor immediately. I’m not saying that all career decisions are entirely dip based, but it will play a factor. Contract price, length, climate, fans, nightlife, am I allowed to chew during the 4 hours I sit there doing nothing every night… these are all questions every baseball player asks himself before signing a deal. There are some things it’s physically impossible for a dipper to do without dipping: drive a car, take a shit/shower, and be at a baseball park. Take that right away from Giants players and you’re essentially denying their chance to ever land another free agent.
