Natalie Portman Is Leading A Group Bringing A Women's Soccer Team To Los Angeles

Natalie Portman, Serena Williams, Uzo Aduba, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, Jennifer Garner and Eva Longoria are all notable women who are part of the investor group purchasing the NWSL expansion team. Alexis Ohanian, (who is a man) a co-founder of Reddit and venture capitalist, is also invested with the group. Also, Julie Foudy, Mia Hamm, Rachel Buehler, Shannon Boxx, Amanda Cromwell, Lorrie Fair Allen, Ronnie Fair Sullins, Joy Fawcett, Angela Hucles, Shannon MacMillan, Tisha Venturini Hoch and Saskia Webber, who are all U.S. Women's National Team players.

What an absolute powerhouse group there.

The digital release surrounding the announcement was also incredibly well done and garnered a ton of traffic on Twitter.

It is super cool to see an ownership group led by a ton of women. It is also exciting that a ton of those women are professional soccer player's themselves. We spent this entire MLB offseason hearing and reading about the stubborn back and forth between owners and players, the NFL players and the league and owners are currently at odds regarding returning to play and we're less than a decade removed from the NBA lockout. The idea of actual players who know what it like to be in a league being the owners is hopefully a sign of more similar things to come so we can see more sports being played with less bickering between ownership and players.

Erika has talked a ton on the Token CEO podcast about she wants to buy a women's hockey team. She asked ARod on the pod if he wanted to help her and she continues to weave it into conversation on the podcast whenever she can. For my sake, as a guy who works closely with Erika every single day and is directly impacted by her happiness level at any given time, I hope this is a clear sign or foreshadowing that a hockey team for Erika is on the horizon.
