I Need Somebody To Make Paul Walter Hauser's 'Ric Flair' Biopic Starring Ryan Gosling ASAP
I had Paul Walter Hauser ('Richard Jewell', 'BlacKkKlansman', 'I, Tonya', 'Kingdom', etc.) in My Mom's Basement today - which can be listened to in full HERE - and this idea he has for a Ric Flair biopic he wants to write, where Ryan Gosling would play Flair (and he'd either pay Arn Anderson or Dusty Rhodes) captured my imagination like no pitch since Jamie Foxx's for his upcoming Mike Tyson movie.....
There's not a ton of great professional wrestling movies out there in the world. In fact, there's really just one, and that'd be 'The Wrestler', starring Mickey Rourke (directed by Darren Aronofsky). It's a tremendous film, and a very gritty/realistic look at the life of an aging, washed-up wrestler - but that's such a specific subset of the business that I feel a lot of untapped potential for great stories are being left out there! For example - THIS one, about the career of Ric Flair!
Paul later pitched a Mick Foley biopic to me, where he'd play Mick, - one that would have a very 'I, Tonya' type comedy vibe to it, and that sounded amazing as well. I think basically what I'm doin here is asking Big Pete Chernin to just give Paul Walter Hauser all the money in the world to make a bunch of wrestling biopics. C'mon Mr. Chernin! Think of the marks!
