Chris Evans And Jeremy Renner Are In Trouble For Calling Black Widow From The Avengers A "Slut" And A "Whore" During An Interview
Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner are on the same publicity loop that resulted in Robert Downey Jr.’s awkward interview yesterday to promote the new Avengers movie. And apparently they’re not having any easier of a go of it with this video because headlines are already coming in pointing out how this is “sexist” and the actors are guilty of slut-shaming a fictional character in a movie about magic people and space monsters conspiring with sentient robots to destroy Earth:
Even better, they’re also in slightly less in trouble for joking about the fact that the aforementioned fictional character has a fake leg and that it might somehow make Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character less desirable even though she’s still one of the hottest women on Earth playing a deadly ninja who’s as tough as any of the guys:
It’s honestly an impressive amount of outrage for what’s legit 10 seconds of goofing around during an interview. And I want to be mad at these whiny Internet people on behalf of Renner and Evans because it’s insane how you literally can’t joke about anything these days in public without it being thrown back in your face. But at the same time, this is just so patently absurd that I love it. Two actors made jokes on behalf of their characters similarly to how anyone would react in real life when getting passed on by a chick for one of their friends, not some a sexist indoctrination of all women are sluts. Women do the same thing when some guy screws them over, “Oh he’s balding, he’s probably gay anyway.” It’s a REAL basic coping mechanism joke. But because these actors talked like real people and had fun with it, now they’re going to have to issue some phony apology as if their moment of fun somehow is keeping a 10-year-old girl from becoming a CEO one day. It’s all just SO INSANE. But realistically there’s nothing you can do to fight it any more so we should all just sit back and laugh at the fact that guys making an obviously absurdish joke can’t even do that without pudgy Cheetos dust fingers hemming and hawing about misogyny. Welcome to 2015.
PS The real problem here is that Renner and Evans used the wrong insult here. If anything, Black Widow picking Hulk just screams she’s a size queen. I’m not sure how angry Hulk sex would work out but you know she her pick was made just around dying for that big ol’ veiny green rage dick. Those shredded purple pants can hardly contain that bad boy.
