Florida Is Saying Fuck The NCAA And Signing A Bill Effective July 1, 2021 To Let College Athletes Make Money On Name, Image And Likeness

Well, then, let's giddy on up. This always felt like it was going to happen. Florida and California have both been aggressive in passing a bill that would let college athletes make money on name, image and likeness - no matter what the NCAA said. It's why we're seeing people within the NCAA beg congress to pass a bill preventing this. They want control of everything and Florida just stepped all over that.

Really what this is going to do is force the NCAA's hand. You can't have one state with major programs having this opportunity and nowhere else. You also can't kick the entire state of Florida out of the NCAA. So they have one year to figure shit out. Again, it's not that difficult if you're the NCAA. You let everyone make money on their name, image and likeness. You have to let this happen at this point. You already have power 5 commissioners calling for it:

I can't stress this enough, so I say it in every blog. I actually agree that payments shouldn't come from universities. I agree 100% that a scholarship is good enough payment from the school. But who gives a shit if boosters are giving money for NIL? Do we honestly think recruiting is going to change how it is now? No, the best programs are still going to get the best players. Not only that but it's going to lead to even more investigations and even more confusing investigations into determining where this money is coming from and how it's going to be watched. Just open it up and let these guys and gals make money based on what people want to pay them.

The NCAA keeps talking about putting in guardrails for their NIL rule. They don't want to ruin the 'integrity' of college sports, which is just an outrageous statement to start. The only thing that's going to do is make it tougher for the NCAA. They have to deem who is a booster - remember in this college hoops FBI investigation the argument is Adidas was a booster. Again, I don't understand why we're trying to act like players making money on NIL changes the game. You still have to go out and play. Look at college hoops - the best team wins the tournament roughly 3 out of 10 years. It doesn't matter what players make or if they are guaranteed an ad deal by going to a school. You still have to play the game and that's the shit we care about.

But for now good on Florida. This is going to be fascinating to watch. The NCAA and/or all other states have to respond quickly now. You can't be at a recruiting disadvantage. Think of like Georgia with football. As of this moment Florida football has the biggest advantage in the SEC. Something tells me Florida won't be the only one to have this come July 1, 2021.
