Today I Learned There Are People Who Don't Know About the Cracker Barrel Peg Game
This TikTok video popped up on my feed last night, probably because TikTok is run by the Chinese government and they have an unfathomable amount of data on me, but whatever; it's a good app.
This video contains a tutorial regarding one of the simplest, yet finest games ever created: the Cracker Barrel peg game. I'm virtually positive Cracker Barrel did not actually create this game, but Aretha Franklin didn't write "Respect" either and that's her song. There are few pleasures in life more cathartic and simple than playing the peg game and a nice round or two of checkers at Cracker Barrel.
I guess being from the South has clouded my understanding of the rest of the country in this regard, but I was truly shocked to see the amount of people in the comments who had no idea what was going on.
In the last few days, I have unfortunately learned that there are large swaths of people who do not like Fever Pitch and now apparently nobody knows about one of the greatest games ever made. Getting your first perfect round of the peg game is a rite of passage for every child in the South. I don't remember the moment I first cracked the code on the game, but I do know I've been chasing that high ever since.
Any of y'all youngsters who don't know about Cracker Barrel need to find your nearest location, go grab you a seat and try to defeat the peg game without any help from TikTok while you're waiting on your biscuits. And then on your way out, grab you some Moon Pies and mint sticks and thank me later.
