The Transformers Animated Prequel Found It's Director

"An untitled animated prequel to the “Transformers” franchise is in the works at Paramount Pictures and Hasbro’s eOne with “Toy Story 4” director Josh Cooley.

Screenwriting partners Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari have written the script for the untitled project, while Paramount Animation and eOne will develop and produce the film. The film is in early stages of development. After winning an Oscar for “Toy Story 4,” Cooley is attached to direct, and producers are expected to be Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian."

The Transformers franchise has gotten a tough beat culturally over the last decade in my opinion. The first movie was undeniably great, giving us amazing looking action along with solid enough acting. However, none of the sequels/prequel were as good original (although I will shout out 'Bumblebee' for being very close), and the franchise picked up the rep as the go-to "bro" movies. It became the Axe body spray of film, which became viewed as a bad thing. I'm here to say that there is nothing wrong with enjoying these movies, and that Axe is also ok sometimes in a pinch. Remember this commercial?

Anyway, I think this choice in director is great. Cooley not only won an oscar for 'Toy Story 4', but also did storyboarding for 'The Incredibles', 'Cars', 'Ratatouille' and more. Combining his experience along with Barrer and Ferrari's script(By the way, how cool is the name "Gabriel Ferrari") should make for a good movie that also has some levity to it. Humor is something that made 'Ant-Man and the Wasp', which B&F wrote, so great, and that's something sorely needed in a franchise that has had a recent penchant for taking itself too seriously.

The animated medium is also going to make this movie so much better. Giant flashy battles on Cybertron cometh and I, for one, can't wait.
