SPARTA, N.J. (PIX11) — A Sparta man tried to cover up a drunken driving crash by reportedly pouring water on the road to make it look like black ice caused it, according to police. Police say Brian J. Byers, 20, was arrested several hours after he allegedly drove a 2001 black BMW into a guard rail after blowing through a stop sign near the intersection of Woodport and Sawmill roads. An investigation revealed that after Byers crashed, he fled the scene in his damaged vehicle. Byers then returned to the the intersection in a different vehicle being driven by 20-year-old Alexander Zambenedetti. The two men brought with them two five gallon buckets filled with water, which Byers poured onto the intersection, police say.

I actually love this plan for 2 reasons. First I think the black ice scheme is legit. Like I’d give that a 24% chance of working. Second if it doesn’t work then you can fall back on the “How drunk could I be if I thought up that plan?” So you basically got 2 shots to get out unscathed. What’s that old expression?
