A Portland State Hoops Coach Decided To Get Married On The Court When Its Conference Tournament Was Canceled

[Source] - The extra kick in the teeth was this: Portland State was stuck in Boise for another 24 hours before it could fly home. With nothing else to do, Coburn and his fiancée, team academic adviser Lindsay Meiggs, went to lunch. Several members of Coburn’s family live in Boise, so they tagged along as well.

Over the meal at Lock Stock and Barrel in downtown Boise, someone—Coburn isn’t even sure who—jokingly suggested, “Why don’t we have a wedding?”

Fuck it. This is how you adapt on the fly. Your conference tournament gets canceled and there's a fear that your wedding is about to be canceled now too? Just get on the horn with the commissioner and start putting shit into play so you can get married right there on the court. I don't hate this move one bit. You know what's a pain in the ass? Planning a wedding. You have to deal with calling a bunch of people, meeting a bunch of people to discuss shit like flowers. You don't want to talk about flowers.

This is just the ultimate flipping a terrible situation into a great situation. We're talking about Portland State here, not some blue blood with title aspirations. I get that you want to have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament, but you're not playing the what-if game as much here. So as a coach guess what you remember now? Oh, the day I got married. Smart to always have an anniversary date that's easy to remember. One of the biggest keys in picking a wedding date for a guy.

So congrats to the happy couple! Fuck, I miss hoops.
