Football Guys Being Football Guys: Marrone, Cat, Commenter Let it All Out During Interview

To send you into the weekend, Pardon My Take welcomed Jacksonville Jaguars HC Doug Marrone on today's show. The last time Coach Marrone hopped on the mic with Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter, he walked into the Cash App Studios in NYC with a bunch of bologna sandwiches during the dog days of summer. Now, this meeting was out in Indianapolis at last week's NFL Combine. The trio discussed a tough 2019 season for the Jags, fighting for his job, and the Houston Asterisks robbing the Yankees of a World Series title. Let's set the scene here, though. Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter were on the topic of how Marrone went about potentially getting fired after a tough season in Jacksonville. That led him to paraphrasing what he said to his team in the locker room with his future unclear:

Doug Marrone: Hey, listen. This is how this business is. Right now, it's me. Sooner or later, it may be you. I want you to watch how I handle this situation, so when it happens to anyone in this room, whether you're a declining player, a player that's not playing well, it's gonna happen. Let me be able to show you at least how you should handle it by my example, and that's what I told the team.

Mr. Cat: I like that. So, how long did that meeting last? I imagine that you locked the door and you're like, I'm not letting you out till we figured this out. And then you cried, and you're like, I love this team so much. But a good cry. This is a good cry, because when a football guy cries when he loves his players so much, that's like the pinnacle of football guy cry.

Doug Marrone: Yeah, I mean I just think it's a presentation. Hey, listen, what are your plans, what are you going to do? Lay it out on the table. I guess for me, I look at your guys' lives. I'm like, holy cow, they must have an unbelievable life. But you guys grind and work, you know.

Mr. Commenter: We cry. I'm about to cry right now because I love my guys. I love Bubba, I love Hank.

Mr. Cat: Mhmmm. Lock the door.

Doug Marrone: Can we get a hug real quick?

Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter: Yeah (then get up and proceed to hug).

Mr. Cat: Dead wrong! You're still here!

Mr. Commenter: I'm not fucking going anywhere! By the time this interview is over, we'll have incepted you into thinking that you cried.

Mr. Cat: Yeah, I cried a lot.

Football Guys will be Football Guys, and you can't help but support them. It doesn't matter if it's the middle of the season, it doesn't matter if it's the slowest time on the NFL calendar. You must support what they are doing, because one way or the other, it is all somehow part of a sophisticated Football Guy plan. It is great to see that Coach Marrone is getting another shot with the Jaguars. Hopefully he can lead Mr. Jack & Hammer himself, Gardner Flint Minshew III, and the rest of the team to the playoffs in 2020.
