Edge's Surprise Return At The Royal Rumble Blew The Roof Off Minute Maid Park Last Night
Almost nine years ago, one of the most beloved wrestlers of all time was forced into retirement far too soon after multifarious neck injuries led him to a cervical spinal stenosis diagnosis - the same bone disease that led to the end of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's career. This beloved wrestler I speak of is none other than Adam Copeland - known to the world as Edge.
The Rated R Superstar's retirement speech on the night after WrestleMania 27 was as real and heart-wrenching as they come...
...and his (much deserved) induction into WWE Hall of Fame instantly went down as one of the best in company history, and showed just how great and likable a dude Adam Copeland is...
Over the last decade, Edge has kept busy with his podcast, various shows, different projects, and I believe he even landed himself a small part in 'VIKINGS', but there was never much chatter about a potential return to the ring for him due to the severity of the injuries he retired with…that is, until last October, when FrontRowBrian (MMA insider) reported that Edge had met with multiple doctors and had allegedly gotten cleared to wrestle.
From there on out, there's been rumors and whispers, but never anything concrete. Some people even lost faith that he'd be coming back when Edge himself kayfabed the rumors on Twitter!
Last night, however, at the Royal Rumble, our prayers were answered when the unspeakable happened, and we heard the words: "You think you know me…" after the clock counted down its 21st time…
I don't know how, I don't know why, but I am just sooooo fucking happy Edge is back.
He's someone I'd truly consider an all time great (both in the ring and on the microphone) and quite possibly the heel I loved to hate more than anybody else. He made it down to the final few in the Rumble last night, and had phenomenal moments with former Rated RKO partner Randy Orton, as well as a few new foes in AJ Styles and Roman Reigns, showing zero signs of ring rust in the process. He actually looks cooler now than ever before, too, and I didn't even know that was possible.
Plus, he returned on the same night as his wife, Beth Phoenix, proving them as wrestling's best power couple out there!
Sorry Seth/Becky! (not sorry)
I can't wait to see his return run leading into WrestleMania and really selfishly hope we get to see Daniel Bryan vs Edge at some point in the near future.
Welcome back Edge!
