CC Sabathia On Wearing a Suit While Calling Baseball Games: "Why Do I Need to Wear a Suit to Talk About Baseball? It's Fucking Stupid To Wear a Suit"

NY Post

CC Sabathia is going to be a special adviser to Yankees GM Brian Cashman, The Post has learned. The role is expected to be one of significance with Sabathia wanting to have a big front-office presence in his post-playing career.

Cashman added that he and Sabathia have had several conversations about his role this winter. The GM expects Sabathia to work at the major league and minor league levels. As part of Sabathia’s new Yankees role, there are talks to also make him part of the YES Network’s Yankee broadcasts.

CC Sabathia the player is long gone. The big fella is now entering the next stage of his life. CC Sabathia the front office man and possibly the announcer. The NY Post reported yesterday what we all assumed was just inevitable. CC will be taking a special adviser role under GM Brian Cashman. He has zero interest in being a pitching coach or a manager. That man is done traveling so don't even think about it. His plan appears to eventually carve out a big role in the front office which is awesome.

The other side of this is the more interesting part. Apparently there is interest for CC to hop in the YES Network booth and call games next season. The exception is that CC apparently wants nothing to do with Michael Kay. I'm not entirely sure what the origin is behind their beef, but I believe for a while they were not on speaking terms. If I were to guess I'd say it had something to do with Kay being critical of CC while he was going through his alcoholism problems years ago. Whatever it is, CC appears to not be over it. Ryan Ruocco fills in frequently for Kay when he's off or sick and we all know about their phenomenal R2C2 podcast they do together. Imagine a booth with Ruocco, CC, and Paul O'Neill? That's must watch.

Another incredible tidbit of this story is CC's refusal to wear a suit. Spot the lie with what he said.

“I’m not wearing a suit,” the 6-foot-6, 300-pound Sabathia said. “Why do I need to wear a suit to talk about baseball? It is f–king stupid to wear a suit. Guys on the field aren’t wearing dress clothes. People in the stands aren’t wearing dress clothes. It makes no sense. If they let me go up there in a Jordan sweatsuit, I’ll do games all day.”

That's my king. CC doesn't give a fuck. You're not getting that man in a suit no matter how much money you throw at him. It's jumpsuit or bust. That's a mood if I've ever seen one. And he's dead on right. Why on Earth do these guys have to wear a suit up in the booth? 90% of the time you can't even seen them because you're obviously watching the game happen. It's insane these guys have to wear a suit in the middle of the summer. There's just no reason whatsoever for that to be a mandatory thing. Let CC do his thing.
