Adding King Of The Court To The NBA All Star Weekend Would Be A Fantastic Idea

The NBA is so concerned nowadays about making drastic changes to how they run things in an effort to help boost interest and ratings. We see proposals for an in season tournament, playoff reseeding, the whole nine. Well one thing we don't hear about is making some changes to All Star Weekend, and I would argue those fesitivities are the ones that need some tweaking. The Skills Competition is whatever, the Dunk Contest has lost some of it's luster, and the actual game isn't all that exciting since guys don't try until the last few minutes.

Which is why I think the NBA should consider what CJ McCollum and Lou Williams are suggesting. Give me King Of The Court at some point in the weekend. It can replace the Skills competition as far as I'm concerned. Now there are obviously roadblocks as you can imagine. Actually convincing guys to participate is #1, I'm sure there are insurance issues and all that to consider as well, but let's just say this happens. You can't tell me that wouldn't be fun as hell to watch. Watching players call someone out and challenge them would be AWESOME. I'd be down to limit dribbles and all that so make it somewhat fair, and maybe you think it would get boring if nobody makes shots. Well, how is that any different from when someone misses like 7 straight dunk attempts? Plus, these dudes are so fucking good chances are that wouldn't be an issue. You ever see those King Of The Court battles over the years with Team USA? They rule

Think of how sweet it would be to watch the best of the best go at each other one on one. The crowd getting hyped on game points, guys calling out other players that they think they can cook. You cannot tell me that wouldn't perk your interest. Make the prize money something ridiculous and tie it to charity or something.

Obviously the downside is the potential risk that someone could get hurt, but that's true for the regular All Star game anyway. I think we can all agree that All Star Weekend needs some new life, and this could be just the thing to get players as well as fans interested. You can't tell me the league wouldn't be able to sell this.  There are so many potential awesome matchups if guys buy in it would be must watch stuff. Maybe you do it where you can only match up with someone that's your same position. For example you couldn't get Embiid vs Kyrie or some shit. Listen I'm not trying to come up with all the details in this blog, but I know I would sure as shit watch a King Of The Court during All Star weekend and it almost makes too much sense to add. The NBA always wants to talk about how innovative they are, well how about you wake up and give us this.
