It's Important To Remember That Every Coaching Hire Sucks Ass Unless It's For Your Favorite Team

It's been a pretty busy 48 hours on the coaching carousel. First up we had Mike McCarthy getting hired as the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Then the Nashville Predators fired Peter Laviolette last night and quickly replaced him with John Hynes this morning. Then we also got the news that Matt Rhule will be the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers, and some random dude from Philly named Joe Judge will be the new head coach of the New York Football Giants.

With all these hirings happening so close together, it gets pretty difficult to be able to keep up with. I mean it is your job as a sports fan in the year 2020 to have a completely irrational and immediate opinion on each hire. It doesn't matter if you haven't done any research. It doesn't matter if you haven't taken into consideration how the coaching philosophies will work together with the roster. All that matters is that your take registers at no colder than lukewarm. The spicier the take, the better.

So one simple solution to keep in mind while you're trying to assess and grade all of these coaching hires is to just ask yourself if you are a fan of the team that made the hire or not. Because unless that's your squad that you're talking about, the new coach always sucks an outrageous amount of ass, it is the biggest mistake that organization will ever make, and they'll be fired within 2 years. Need some examples? Fine.

Mike McCarthy is just a fatter version of Jason Garrett who wasted the best years of Aaron Rodgers' career with just 1 Super Bowl. The only reason he was hired is because he's the only sack of shit sorry enough to let Jerry Jones control him like a puppet for the next decade.

Peter Laviolette was fired because his team was underperforming and their Stanley Cup window is quickly closing. So what do the Predators go out and do? Hire a coach who was fired even earlier in the year because his team, which was significantly worse than the Predators, were also underperforming. It would be like trying to cure AIDS by giving somebody lupus.

Imagine hiring Joe Judge and then immediately thinking that the best way to help him succeed would be to tie Jason Garrett to his waist as an OC. It's almost worse than hiring Jason Garrett as the head coach in the first place because now you're just setting yourself up for Garrett to be an interim head coach when Joe Judge inevitably gets fired.

So yeah. It's pretty easy. If your favorite team hires a new coach, any downfalls in that coach's career are immediately forgiven and he will take your team over the hump and put you right in championship contention right away. But if it's any other team in the league, and especially a rival? Woah buddy. It could very easily go down as the single worst coaching hire in the history of sports, and everybody involved with that decision should feel shame.
