Domingo German Has Been Suspended For Domestic Violence And Will Miss 63 Games In 2020

Finally we have a punishment for Domingo German. 81 games. It's one of the bigger suspensions handed down for domestic violence in the sport's history. Major League Baseball is already counting 18 of the 81 already served, because of the games he sat out to end 2019, so the 2020 suspension number is 63 games.

This is a very weird case because there were zero criminal charges filed and we don't know who witnessed this or what happened. The rumor is he slapped his girlfriend, which is obviously terrible, but we don't know the full story or even half of it. The punishment is harsh because of the lack of information or charges, but I agree with it. There's no place for domestic violence in baseball or anywhere for that matter. It sounds like something very serious happened, and this is the way to take care of it. Hopefully Domingo takes this suspension seriously, gets himself right, and comes back a new man. If not, I hope the Yankees tell him to get lost. I think everyone deserves a second chance if they don't take it for granted. Get yourself right, Mingo.

As for the Yankees, they'll be perfectly fine without Domingo. He can return at the earliest on June 5th. Going into the season right now he was slotted in as the 5th starter behind Gerrit Cole, Luis Severino, James Paxton, and Masahiro Tanaka. Without him the team will likely turn to southpaw Jordan Montgomery. If not Monty then Mike King, Deivi Garcia, and Clarke Schmidt (not on the 40) will be options. As of now J.A. Happ is still on the roster, but I don't see how that's the case by the time pitchers and catchers report next month. Maybe this suspension leads them to keep Happ, but I don't see it.

Anyways, I'm glad we finally got the suspension and now the Yankees can move forward with a plan, instead of sitting around just waiting.
