BSC 2019 Top 20 Countdown - #14 The Coldest Day In History
A Note From Carl - This is the 7th entry in the Barstool Chicago Top 20 Moments of 2019 blog series. The list is coming from our perspective as 4 dudes who got the job of a lifetime exactly one year ago.
We covered this list in person at the December 20th live show. We're following it up on our podcasts to close out the year under following schedule:
#10-6: Red Line Radio 12/30
#5-1: Dog Walk 12/30
I'll be covering them on the blog one-by-one. I have no rhyme or reason to length or content other than I just want to give each one of these moments their own blog. And on a personal level, I want to hit 2020 in full stride and nothing says momentum like firing off 20 straight blogs to end the year:
#18 Keeping The Watch Party At Declan's Alive
#17 St. Patrick's Day Got Rowdy
#15 Dee Brown Comes On Red Line Radio
#14 The Coldest Day In History
It's the last week of January 2019 when news rolls in that it's legitimately about to be -50 wind chills. Pandemonium reigns out across Chicago as people everywhere are acting like huge pussies/fighting for survival. In the meantime, Eddie's over here giving rides to the common man:
Ultimately landing a passenger:
The best part is that Eddie was supposed to meet me at the Horseshoe Casino to play some table games. We were dying to soak in the daytime scene on the coldest day in Chicago history. What type of creatures would make their way to the shoe? Eddie and I had to find out, but he couldn't even make it out of the north side looking at dudes standing at bus stops. I tell you. That Eddie.
Me?
I was cruising around handing out great tastings on my way to the shoe where I unceremoniously lost $50 and made friends with a couple of hot older ladies and I mean that respectfully:
The reason this cracks top 20 and settles at #14 though is the amount of videos we got from stoolies all over. Just 1 month on the job this was the first time our tips inbox exploded because of something going on in Chicago. Objectively speaking it was fucking hilarious content:

Obviously we have no interest in going back to subzero temperatures but if we do, this is how we want to cover it. Shirtless stoolies crushing beers and hitting wedge shots over their Vernon Hills rooftops. A true reminder that nothing brings Chicagoans together quite like collective misery.
