Sean Avery Is Now Saying That Hawks Assistant Coach, Marc Crawford, Was Abusive

Anaheim Ducks v Los Angeles Kings

(source)–Avery, who retired after the 2011-12 season, told Larry Brooks of the New York Post that Crawford kicked him during a game while the two were with the Kings in 2006-07.

“He kicked me after a too-many-men-on-the-ice call I took,” Avery said. “He didn’t have me serve it, we got scored on, and he let me have it.”

The incident occurred on December 23, 2006 against Nashville, according to Brooks. The Kings were handed a too-many-men penalty at 19:18 of the second period, during which J.P. Dumont scored the Predators’ sixth goal in a 7-0 victory.

After the goal, Avery said that Crawford came down to the end of the bench to deliver a message.

“You know how I stand at the end of the bench? He came down and gave me an ass kick that left a mark.

Marc Crawford was physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive to his players? You don’t say…I remember when I listened to Spittin Chiclets too.

That was the clip that Chiclets used from their interview with Sopes a little over a year ago. The full transcript was even worse.

Kicking, choking, screaming, psychological warfare. Marc Crawford sounds like the warden in Cool Hand Luke. Just making Sopel dig holes and fill them back up.

Now look, I am definitely against any type of phsyical abuse between the players and coaches. That is a line that shouldn’t be crossed. Bill Peters deserved to get in some trouble and Marc Crawford probably did too. Here is the deal though…when it comes to Sean Avery…I don’t care. Sean Avery, a known asshole the world over, comes off sounding like a pussy here. Oh he kicked you and it left a mark? Boo-hoo. You’re fine. You’re plenty tough enough to handle that and handled worse. When you complain about a bruise on the ass a dozen years after it happened it just comes off as being an opportunist because of the current news cycle around Peters. Sopel told that story about Crawford out of the blue. It made a little ripple at the time on social media, but was largely forgetten in a week. I doubt it came up when Crawford was interviewing for the Blackhawks assistant coaching job. Sean Avery, also a known attention whore, saw an opportunity to get a little extra attention and went for it. Not excusing what Crawford did to him, but also…shut up Avery. If Crawford did something like this to Andrew Shaw or really anyone on the current Blackhawks team I would be livid.  Sean Avery…this story will be dead by the end of the day because…nobody likes him.
