According To Will Ferrell, Christopher Walken Said That The "More Cowbell" SNL Sketch Ruined His Life
EW- Millions of people have cracked up at Saturday Night Live’s iconic “More Cowbell” sketch, which starred Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. But the one person not laughing? Walken himself, apparently “Here’s the crazy thing. I go to see Christopher Walken years later, in a play. I say hello to him backstage and he’s like, ‘You know, you’ve ruined my life,'” Ferrell said, imitating Walken’s famous voice. “‘People during curtain call bring cowbells. The other day I went for Italian food for lunch, and the waiter asked if I wanted more cowbell with my pasta bolognese.’ I think he’s really mad.” Still, Ferrell made it clear that Walken took it all in stride, saying the actor “had a little smile” while talking.

Is this a blog with a clickbaity headline based off of a quote that may have been jokingly said on the Tonight Show because it's a slow internet day? Maybe, maybe not, maybe fuck yourself. Did I just use that line from The Departed in the last blog I wrote as well? Again. Maybe, maybe not, maybe fuck yourself.
But I just wanted to put it on the record that if the "More Cowbell" sketch ruined Christopher Walken's life, it is a trade-off I would make 100 times out of 100. No offense to Christopher, who seems like a fine man. But one man's being life ruined in order to make millions of other people's lives better is a trade is about as good as a deal as you will get. In fact to prove there are no hard feelings for Mr. Walken, I'll expand that statement well past Christopher Walken. I would ruin anyone else's life that wasn't my own for that classic sketch to be possible. Sorry Mama Clem, Wifey Clem, and both Clem Kids. But I remember how much worse the content options were back in 2000. The internet was slow as fuck, there were like three channels that pumped out any sort of good content, porn was impossible to get quickly, and if you wanted to watch a movie you didn't own, you had to shlep it out to a Blockbuster Video. I know the internet has been waxing poetic about Blockbuster now that there's only one more of them on the planet. But leaving your house and driving somewhere just to get something to watch seems like such a bitch move now.
Which is why whenever you caught a comedic gem like "More Cowbell" back when SNL wasn't a parody of itself, you thanked God you saw it and hoped you were recording the episode with your VCR so you could watch it again because even DVRs weren't even a thing yet. If not, you either could think about the skit or buy the "Best Of (Insert SNL Actor's Name Here)" DVD for like $25 and watch it on loop. I could pretty much recite the Farley one by heart. Plus lets be honest. Christopher Walken's life probably would be ruined no matter what because he would still have to see people doing both good and bad impressions of him nonstop. Which is why any bit of misery Will Ferrell banging a cowbell like a goddamn madman brought to Walken's life was 100000% worth it for the good of the planet.
Speaking of Walken impressions, none has consistently made me laugh harder than Dave Grohl's. Lets watch that again and get one more minute closer to the weekend.
Have a great weekend everyone!
