Chicago's New Mega Starbucks Is Going To Have A Malort Cocktail
Chicago Eater -The countdown continues for Starbucks, as the coffee company prepares to open its largest store ever along downtown Chicago’s famous Mag Mile. Chicago’s Starbucks Reserve Roastery should open on November 15 and servers will pour much more than coffee. Starbucks has assembled three of Chicago’s top bartenders to create exclusive cocktails, including one featuring the city’s most infamous spirit: Jeppson’s Malört.
With that local flavor, Starbucks will continue to normalize malört with a riff on a boilermaker. It’s an ode to Chicago’s dive bar culture where shots and beers reign.
I wrote in February about the coffee shop that made a Malort infused latte, but now Starbucks is taking it to a whole new level. They don’t give a shit that they’re just a coffee shop and could’ve done something similar. They wanted to go on out there and create a real deal alcoholic drink that people will actually drink and not just for a gag.
I gotta say though that I don’t think this is the best idea. Starbucks wants people sitting in there to have casual conversations/sit on a laptop over a drink. They don’t want bros going wild over who can chug the new Malort boilermaker the fastest and I can tell you with pretty much 100% certainty that it’s bound to happen at some point.
Oh well – maybe Starbucks is looking to spice it up a little bit. Just somebody please send us the video when it does happen.
P.S. – Where the fuck have I been that I had no idea Chicago was about to get the largest Starbucks in the world? Did everybody know this? Why are they building it here? So many questions that aren’t even Malort cocktail related
